All amplifiers need to be serviced from time to time in order to keep them running properly. Even the best amps need to have certain components evaluated and replaced after a certain amount of time (like the tires on your car).

Luckily, Dexter amps also offers professional amplifier service. We service tube and solid state amps, and we will fix any amp if we are able. Many newer amps are designed for cost-effectiveness which means catastrophic failures are often not cost-effective to fix. By the same token, many older amps have lived so hard that fixing them would require a complete rebuild. Either of these situations can be resolved by visiting our Shop page!

Rates for service: $80/hr with one hour minimum. Time after the 1st hour is billed in 15 minute increments. This does not include parts, however, we do offer parts at our cost.

Most amp repairs are completed within one hour, but if not, we will contact you for approval before doing any additional work. Our work includes but is not limited to:

Tube replacement and biasing

Filter capacitor/out-of-spec component replacement (more on filter caps here)

Power cable replacement (two-prong to three-prong)

General diagnostics (amps are complicated. No one expects you to know what’s wrong with it)

Circuit rebuilds (on a case-by-case basis)

General modifications (we’ll talk)

Amp doesn’t turn on, or something similarly vexing

All amp repair is by appointment only.

If you are not in the Los Angeles area but you’d like us to fix your amp, you can send it to us in the mail. Please DO NOT SEND US YOUR WHOLE AMP.

To send us your amp, carefully remove the chassis, pack it thoroughly, and mail it to the address below. You will be responsible for shipping both ways. All standard service policies apply.
